Privacy Policy

Taper is a swim training journal app for iOS. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We collect only what we need to run the service. We do not sell your data. We do not run ads.
Information We Collect
When you use Taper we collect:
- Account information — your email address (provided by Sign in with Apple) and your name (first and last name), used to identify you and to display you to other members of any groups you join.
- Training profile — pool type, weekly training frequency, and race goals you set during onboarding. This data is stored server-side and synced to your account.
- Workout data — photos of whiteboards you capture, AI-parsed workout sets (distances, reps, rest intervals, stroke types), and total distances.
- Journal entries — optional feel ratings, swim tags, and notes you attach to a workout.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active Taper Pro subscription. Payment details are handled by Apple; we never see your card number.
- Basic device info — iOS version and device model, used for compatibility, crash reporting, and analytics.
- Usage and analytics data — how you interact with the app, such as screens viewed, features used (for example capturing a workout, setting a goal, or joining a group), onboarding and subscription steps, app opens, and crash or error reports. This includes a device/installation identifier and, once you sign in, your account ID, so this activity can be tied to your account. Some of this may be collected anonymously before you create an account.
How We Use Your Information
- Syncing your workouts and profile across your devices via our cloud backend (Supabase).
- Parsing whiteboard photos — images are sent to OpenAI's API to extract your workout. They are not stored by us after parsing and are not used to train OpenAI models.
- Managing your subscription — we share your user ID with RevenueCat to verify your entitlement across devices.
- Authentication — sign-in tokens from Apple are exchanged with Supabase to create your session.
- Understanding and improving the app — we use product analytics (via PostHog) to see how features are used, find where people get stuck, fix bugs and crashes, and decide what to build next. We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Groups and Sharing
Taper includes optional Groups, where you can train alongside a team. Groups are private and joined with an invite code. When you join a group, other members of that group can see your name, your profile, the goals you choose to make visible, and any workouts you post to the group (such as a workout of the day). Content you share within a group is visible only to that group's members, not publicly. You control what you post, you can leave a group at any time, and you can report or block other members.

Taper uses the following services, each governed by their own privacy policy:
Data Retention
Your account and workout data is kept for as long as you have an active Taper account. When you sign out, your local data is cleared from the device. Cloud data remains and is restored when you sign back in.
To delete your account and all associated data, use Settings → Delete Account in the app, or email admin@taper.fit. We will complete the deletion within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Taper is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us data and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
You can access, correct, or delete your data at any time:
- Use the share feature in Taper to export your workouts.
- Delete your account and all associated data in the app under Settings → Delete Account, or email admin@taper.fit to request deletion.
- Manage or cancel your subscription via Settings in the app or through your Apple ID.
If you are in the EU or UK, you may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of the page will reflect the latest revision. For material changes we will notify you via the app or by email.
